Expect "Transformers" To Hold Off "Zookeeper," "Horrible Bosses" At Box Office

(RTTNews) - After an enormous opening that should soon take "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" to the top of the 2011 charts, it looks like Michael Bay and company will be back atop the box office once again this weekend. Meanwhile, opening at more than 3,300 theaters, PG comedy "Zookeeper" will be looking to scoop up some of the family audience from "Cars 2" and R-rated comedy "Horrible Bosses" could ride strong buzz to a nice opening this weekend.

Heading into its second weekend, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" continues to explode with its target demographic. Not only did "Dark of the Moon" put up tremendous opening figures, by far the biggest of the year, it has been hauling in huge daily totals as well, which should push it past $200 million domestically before the start of the weekend. "Dark of the Moon" is also rapidly approaching $500 million worldwide, putting it on pace to make a run at the $1 billion mark.

This weekend, "Dark of the Moon" won't have much competition either, which should make it the clear number one movie at the box office yet again. Like "Revenge of the Fallen," "Dark of the Moon" will probably dip somewhere around 60%, though that will still be enough to come close to $40 million. By the time "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" hits theaters next weekend, "Dark of the Moon" will have put together a huge total pushing $300 million in domestic receipts alone.

But this weekend won't all be about machines smashing together in 3D, as two comedies take aim at vastly different audiences. Following the enormously successful "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," Kevin James is back in "Zookeeper," which carries a PG rating and boasts Adam Sandler and Sylvester Stallone in its cast. Though early buzz has been less than positive, family audiences will likely still flock to see James in another easy-to-follow goofball comedy.
